Nepal: epilogue
On my last day in Nepal, i woke up early - i guess the habit from the trek still - so i went for an early morning walk through the streets of old Kathmandu. Thamel was still sleeping, but elsewhere the city was well woken up. I had some freshly fried donuts and cups of tea from small shabby restaurants, discovered some new temples, crowded with people performing their morning rituals, and strolled...

Part 3: Helambu
From Tharepati, it would take us three days to get back to Kathmandu. We left on the morning of day 10, an ice cold morning, everything covered in a fine layer of white frost. The first part of the walk was pretty level along the ridge, but soon enough it was all down down down, a long knee-busting descent along steep, heavily eroded paths. By lunch we’d arrived in...
Another long post about my second trek in Nepal
Hello hello - writing to you from Darjeeling, northern India. Crossed the border alright, and already visited a tea estate and had some fine Darjeeling tea. But more about that later. First, the eagerly awaited second part of the trekking story!

- 17,000 buffaloes and 25,000 goats, chickens and ducks were slaughtered at the Gadhimai Hindu “festival”, attended by one...
Of people and pachyderms
1: Nepali people They’re pretty great. Seriously. OK, obviously, there’s a language barrier and stuff, but still. Many of the people you meet are curious, outgoing, and speak at least some English. They’re usually really friendly, and not always driven by business. And more often than not, they’ll be smiling. They just love to sing and dance. It’s great to watch...

Namaste,
Writing to you once again from Lakeside tourist central in Pokhara. A proper tourist ghetto if i ever saw one. Basically one long strip of guest houses, restaurants, shops, travel agencies, cyber cafes, massage parlours. I’ve been here for about five days in total, and what i basically did was walking up and down that strip a few times every day, chilling and eating (there’s...
