The Canadian customs officers were cool. At least they knew what couchsurfing was. What a difference with their colleagues in San Francisco. (Incidentally, yesterday I met a friend who also had to go through the double, hour-long interrogation in SFO. “So you also had to go to that little room at the far right and they asked you all those questions again?” - “Yeah man!”...
Washington.
The Washington part of our road trip got off to a wet start. Not necessarily bad, but seriously soakingly, drenchingly wet. It only stopped raining 48 hours after we crossed the state border. No wonder they have temperate rainforests in this part of the world.

Oregon.
The Oregon coast was even better than the California one. Even though we didn’t see any of the promised marine wildlife - no seals, no whales, only a couple of seagulls - it was absolutely spectacular. Massive beaches and crazy rock formations all over the place. I may have mentioned it before, but: Pacific Ocean = best ocean.

After a twelve hour flight, the last thing you need is skeptical customs officials who hold you up for an hour and a half before letting you in the country. But oh well. Welcome to America.
