After India, I spent 9 weeks in Southeast Asia. Bangkok was the hub to fly in and out of. In comparison to scruffy Tamil Nadu, it felt like a highlight of civilisation, clean, efficient, ritzy … Did I mention clean? When I took the Sky Train from the airport into the city I felt like I was in Japan or something. Everybody tapping away on their iPhones and BlackBerrys and shit. Interesting place to spend a couple of days, although when I got back in March the novelty wore off a bit. There’s only ever so many temples and shopping malls you can visit before it gets boring.
Bangkok is the only place I visited in Thailand, so I can’t tell you anything about the rest of the country, except that it looks a LOT more developed than Laos and Cambodia: good highways, comfortable buses, KFC, McDonalds, 7-Elevens everywhere! My god, the 7-Elevens! I can’t believe I haven’t got a picture of a 7-Eleven… I must have visited them 66 times at least.
Oh well, click on the picture above to view some pictures (eight, actually), of Bangkok.
Vietnam coming soon!
